“disability isnt a competition or something you have to Prove is Bad Enough to deserve being taken seriously” and “some people are objectively more or less disabled in certain areas than you are and that isnt an attack on you” are two concepts that yall absolutely MUST allow to coexist. im so tired
If you call me "differently abled" or "a person with disabilities" instead of a disabled person, or if you call me a "person with autism" instead of an autistic person, I will correct you politely ONCE; if you persist after that I'll just smack you with my beatin' stick (aka my cane) until you learn.

I have been made fun of for not understanding people because I can't process speech sometimes. Snapped at/ yelled at for taking a while at the till because I have arthritis and can't move my hands as fast, or because I use a cane and that makes getting out of the way slow. Told off by people for dropping things in a store because my hands cannot hold on sometimes. Belittled by staff for getting locked in a bathroom because the accessible one wasn't in order or available and I can't always open locks. Told that if I can't handle walking up 3 flights of stairs when the lift is broken I'm probably not cut out for education. That because I can get around with a cane, using my wheelchair is deceitful. That because I can stand for a short time I'm not entitled to a seat. These are a few examples off the top of my tired, currently foggy, head of the way people have used words to belittle, joke about and dehumanise me for being disabled. Words are not "just words" when they humiliate or hurt vulnerable people who are suffering already. Things like this lead to less accessibility, support and resources for us. Ableism isn't "just words" and it never will be.

i support universal free healthcare for one simple reason: if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness you should quit your job. quitting your job is the correct response to terminal illness. but you can’t do that if your healthcare is tied to your job
listen if somebody knows that they will be dead in a years time, and you are forcing them to continue to come into work, that’s fucked up. terminally ill people should be able to quit their jobs and live their last few months to the fullest. i don’t get how that’s a controversial opinion

Universal basic income plus pricing control. Every cunting time the poor get cut the tiniest of breaks, the parasites start raising rent and prices. You cannot let them render UBI useless.

Priorities
- Download the Tor Browser
- This will hopefully help you access the internet regardless of Russian government bans. It’s a little slow, but better than nothing. It hides your IP address from the internet, so it’s kind of like using a VPN. A very basic summary of how Tor works: your internet traffic is routed through several “nodes”. The Entry Node, can see your IP address but has no idea what data you’re sending, and this goes through several middle nodes, until it reaches the Exit Node. The Exit Node can see what data you’re sending, but it can’t see your IP address so it doesn’t know WHO sent it. That’s why it’s a good idea to do nothing identifying when using the Tor Browser, like writing personal information. Here’s a blog post with more detailed information about the Tor Browser.
- Get a VPN
- VPNs are often used to get around government internet restrictions. Russia will probably not be able to do much about it. However, not all VPNs are created equal. Nearly all of the free VPNs are a scam that turn around and sell your data, so free VPNs are not secure. The only exception to this is ProtonVPN which has a free tier, but it’s very slow. Basically the only good VPN is one you pay for. When choosing a VPN, be aware of where the company is based, because if a VPN company is based in the USA, it will have to comply USA privacy laws. So choose a VPN based in a country that has good privacy laws. A great one is Mullvad VPN, which is based in Sweden. But for the purposes of Russia, just making sure your VPN is not Russian or in a country sympathetic to Russia is probably good enough.
Alternative Front-Ends
A frontend is the the part of a website which the user interacts with directly. To browse the contents of websites, you usually have to visit them. However, many people have made alternative privacy-respecting frontends to popular websites that allow you to see the site’s content without actually visiting the website. This helps avoid tracking, data-collection, and even countries’ attempts to ban websites. Twitter is banned in Russia right now, but using all an alternative frontend to Twitter works (according to my Russian friend).

Messaging / Communication
Matrix is a federated and decentralized End-to-End Encrypted (E2EE) messaging with many platforms, the most popular of which is Element. It’s like Discord, but worse. It’s getting better over time though! You can even use a a throwaway email to sign-up.
If you’re Russian you likely already know about Telegram, but MAKE SURE you’re aware that only Secret Chats are End-to-End Encrypted. So don’t say anything that would get you in trouble outside of a Secret Chat.

China is way better at internet censorship. They’ve had years to build the infrastructure to control the flow of information online. And yet, the Chinese people still manage to “climb the wall” and find ways around this. Russia is new to this game and doesn’t have the resources China does. So I really doubt it’ll be that hard to get around their attempts to block websites. Have faith! And feel free to DM me for more info cause this post just scratches the surface for things you can do tbh.
Additionally, if you’re struggling to access non-state news sources, the BBC (whose coverage of Ukraine so far has been excellent and which has now been blocked in Russia) has set up alternative methods to access its reporting.
It is also providing shortwave radio coverage in English, available in Ukraine and parts of Russia, on 15735 kHz and 5875 kHz.

tumblr guide for new users:
1) there is no algorithm for your dashboard. can’t stress this enough. your dashboard is in chronological order of posts and reblogs from people you follow. “based on your likes!” is a joke and they removed that feature in a week
2) because of the lack of algorithm, likes do nothing. if you want more people to see a post, you have to reblog it so it goes on your follower’s dashes
3) the vast majority of posts on a person’s blog tend to be reblogs. think 90% or so. some of those will have that person commenting on it, and more will have tags
4) comments stay on reblog chains, while tags only show up on your reblog of that post. it’s kind of like a whisper voice. in either case, both op and the person you reblogged from see that in their notifications
5) tags don’t go in the body of the post. writing “staying in #lasvegas” won’t make it appear in the las vegas tag, it’ll just look weird
6) it’s totally normal to reblog and post multiple things in one day. it’s normal to reblog the same post twice in a row. it’s normal to have 100 posts+reblogs in a day. post limit (the total number of original posts and reblogs) for a single day is 250. you heard me. 250. go hog fucking wild
7) it defaults to having a visible likes tab on your blog (but only on your blog, not the dashboard) but most people toggle it off
8) “tumblr clout” is a fucking joke. no one can see your follower count, and no one makes money here. there are no influencers. enjoy not giving a shit about maintaining a public persona. it’s all anonymous and your employers won’t find you here
